My spring "cleaning & greening" chore for the day was to clean out my fridge. Here are some things I've learned about keeping the "heart beating"!
- Keep fruits and vegetables AT EYE LEVEL, not in the produce drawers. I realize those drawers may keep things fresher longer, but I tend to forget what I have when they're hidden away. If you look at a food every time you open the fridge, you'll eat it! This is a great way to reduce waste!
- Store foods like nuts, seeds and grains in the fridge in glass containers....they'll last longer! You can recycle glass jars from jams, pickles etc. and use those, or buy a set. Glass is so much better for storing food as it doesn't leach harmful chemicals the way plastics can!
- Save leftovers- even small amounts! A few bites of leftovers is a favorite shared snack for me and little Sam. Or get creative- even if you have only an ounce or two of chicken or vegetables left after a meal, you can reuse that and add to eggs, tortillas for tacos or greens for a little extra spunk in your salad!
An organized fridge makes meal planning and thus healthy living easier!
Cheers!
