The location, right on Armitage among all the shops, couldn't be better, and the atmosphere, food, americano ;) and owners make the entire experience one we'll be going back for…probably weekly.
But the unique thing about Blue Door, and something equally appealing, is that they source many of their ingredients from local farms with a focus on sustainability and seasonality.
We went for breakfast on opening day and had a delicious organic yogurt and granola parfait with local preserves, and an amazing carrot cake muffin. They also have wraps with veggies and eggs as well as oatmeal and other pastry selections.
The lunch/dinner items include sandwiches, soups and salads. The "Little Sprouts Menu" comes with a veggie side and dip (well done!) and the regular sandwiches (all nitrate-free meats) are served with amazing kale chips. The salads I've tried, including the Farm Stand Cobb with addicting sweet and slightly spicy pickled peppers, and the Brussels and Kale were both great. I loved the maple tahini dressing on the Brussels and Kale salad. Oh, and the creamy cauliflower soup (seasonal) has left me craving it days later.
The menu is pretty well balanced. I'm excited to try the communal offerings and the wine and beer!
Finally, Blue Door's little shop wall offers "a selection of carefully curated handcrafted items from artisans across the United States, with a focus on locally sourced" It's nice to have somewhere close to grab a unique hostess gift or local cheese and crackers.
I'm looking forward to each new season at Blue Door…especially spring!
